About Us

Rotes Haus Studio is a red-brick house in Brandenburg, Germany built in 1802. The local villagers sometimes call it by the same name. It started operating as Ivan Jovanovic's studio in 2018.
The beginning of the Rotes Haus Studio marks the beginning of Ivan’s engagement with the print-making process. It came about due to an unplanned acquisition of a quality laundry mangle which he started referring to as the "Laundry Press."The well-made cast iron machine quickly became a tool for practicing conventional and unconventional printing methods.

Today, Ivan is still using the Laundry Press as his printing machine. Sometimes he likes to refer to his printing practice as ‘’stamping’’.
Printing, in his own words, has become an extension of his picture-making practice.

In Ivan's own words

"Print-making is becoming integral to my picture-making process.  A print often tends to be an evolution of an image.  It starts with a drawing which is honed down into a composition which then becomes a template for creating ‘’variations.’’  By variations I also mean having fun.  To refer to classic black and white photo- terminology,  something like ‘’pushing & pulling.’’  By doing so I am exploring the potential of an image: making it bolder, brighter, more contrast-full, adding variations to the printing-colour-tones, sometimes even introducing a collage-background on top of which the image is then printed.  All this often leads to many prints becoming monotype
series.  And so, I am rarely trying to reproduce an image manifold.  Quiet the opposite:  I am trying to discover and give different expressions to ‘’one-base-image’’ and in doing so making each
one unique.
